lyrics

There was a family that lived on my street
And I loved them all
The mother, her name was Diane
She had humor that made you smile
Well, she drank herself away about a year ago
The father, he was a simple man
Honest but not too serious
Well, he took his life one afternoon
Didn't leave a note or anything
The boys were orphans after that
Who knows what it did to their minds
They moved away with their aunt
Haven't seen 'em since

But if I could see 'em now
There are a few things I would say to them
I hope you are doing alright
I hope the people you meet treat you kindly
And I hope I was good to you when I had the chance to be
And if I wasn't, I am so sorry
And if I wasn't, consider this my deepest apology
